David Lindberg Obituary

“Character matters; leadership descends from character.”

David Lindberg passed away on April 20, 2024, at home with his family beside him. He is survived by his Wife Donna, Daughter Joyce Arns and Grandson Ben Arns.

He was predeceased in 2022 by his son Steven.

At the age of 6, David came to Petaluma from Montana with his mother Doris Lindberg and Grandparents David and Anna Tschache.

He remembered being on the train and reading the newspaper headlines announcing “D-Day”.

His mother, Doris worked for Wells Fargo Bank while David delivered newspapers on “Main” street getting to know all of the downtown merchants.

Many of those families remained his friends to this day. David attended Petaluma Schools and was a 1955 Petaluma High School Graduate.

He went on to get his teaching credential at University of Montana in Missoula Montana and received his Master’s Degree at Southern Oregon College in Ashland Oregon.

It was in Missoula he was introduced to Donna Sorenson, his future wife, and the love of his life.

After they married, they moved to Klamath Falls Oregon where David taught at Henley High School.

They moved back to Petaluma in 1962 with their two children Joyce and Steven. David was married to Donna for 65 years.

While their children were young, the family spent many enjoyable summers at Trinity Lake boating, skiing and swimming. After retirement David and Donna bought a 5th wheel trailer.

They traveled all over the US and parts of Canada spending time with friends and family.

David started teaching in Petaluma in 1962 at Kenilworth Junior High School. He then went on to work in Santa Rosa as a coordinator for the Sonoma County Outside Work Experience Program.

His enthusiasm for teaching drew him back to Petaluma where he worked as a principal for the Old

Adobe School District. He finished his career where he began, in the classroom teaching 5th grade students.

David was also an original member of the Petaluma Pacers Car Club. Over the years the members attended various car shows and exhibits such as American Graffiti Days in Petaluma.

He enjoyed meeting regularly with the members at their Tuesday morning coffee club.

In 1967 David joined the Petaluma Elks Lodge 901. He was very involved with the lodge. Because of his leadership qualities he earned the title of Exalted Ruler twice. First in 1973-74 and then

again in 1982-83. In 1983-84 David became the District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler of the Northwest District.

David and Donna made many lifelong friends through the Elks. David was also a Lifetime Member of the Petaluma Lodge 901.
